(See the comments from the 2008 recipients on page 3). The 2009 course will be 2 one week sessions. The first will be held January 26 to January 30, 2009 and the second session February 23 to February 27, 2009.

Each recipient will be able to choose the week they wish to attend. For more information contact the National Center for Asphalt Technologies (NCAT), Click on “Education” at the top of the page, then click on “Upcoming Training Courses” for brochure or information.

Background:
The Colorado Chapter of the American Public Works Association and the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA) have established a scholarship program to expand on the asphalt education opportunities for APWA members who are involved in the management, supervision, or direction of capital and maintenance projects involving the use of hot mix asphalt (HMA) in Colorado. To this end, funding has been obtained through both organizations to support asphalt pavement related training and educational opportunities for personnel employed by public work agencies in Colorado. IN 2008 seven recipients attended the course and found it very informative and well worth the time spent.

Program:
The primary training opportunity that is being presented is the “Short Course in Asphalt Technology” taught at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama. The purpose of this one week intensive course is to provide a general understanding of all phases of HMA technology. Upon completion, the participant will be able to make knowledgeable decisions related to HMA pavements and communicate effectively with asphalt specialists and contractors when the need arises.
