How often do I need to re-certify?

Asphalt Technician and Asphalt Inspector certifications are valid for 3 years.

Does CDOT require Level A certification for Asphalt Inspectors?

Level A is an initial prerequisite.  However, the Level A certification may be current or expired.

Do I have to keep Level A current if I am an Inspector?

No.  CDOT does not require Inspectors to keep their Level A current.

Does a PE qualify to sign the Prerequisite Form for laboratory procedures?

Only if he or she is LabCAT certified in the level(s) you are testing for.

The company I work for does not have an Asphalt Technician who

qualifies to sign my LabCAT Prerequisite Form for lab procedures.  What do I do?

You may go outside your company to have the LabCAT Prerequisite Form signed.  Or, you may attend the RMAEC education training course “Introduction to QC/QA Testing.  Upon successful completion of the course, the RMAEC Instructor will determine if you are proficient in the lab procedures.  If so, the Instructor will sign the Prerequisite Form.

I became Level A certified 6 months ago.  Can I register for Level B certification?

Yes.  If one certification level has been attained and a higher certification level is desired at a future date, the higher level of certification must be completed within 1 year.  If more than 1 year has passed, both levels must be tested for.

Is it possible to loose my LabCAT certification?

Yes, your certification can be revoked if in the opinion of the LabCAT Board of Directors, the technician is thought to have knowingly committed acts, which are detrimental to the integrity of the certification program or the construction industry in general.  Please refer to the Policy and Procedure Manual for additional details.

I am certified in another state.  Do I still need certification in Colorado?

The certification program is unique to Colorado Laboratory and Field Tests.  While certain tests are conducted similar to other states or agencies, small differences may exist.  Therefore, to insure knowledge of current CDOT laboratory and field tests, no certifications from other state programs will be honored.

Is there a policy regarding registration cancellations?

Yes.  Registration closes at 2:00 pm on the Wednesday prior to the session start date.  Cancellations or reschedules made after 2:00 pm on the Wednesday prior to the session start date will be assessed a cancellation/reschedule fee of $100.  Please refer to the Policy and Procedure Manual for additional details.
